Saturday 17 June at 7.30pm, Blackledge Theatre

This June sees the premières of a new full-length work by Salisbury composer Simon McEnery, Space Time Matter Energy. Described as a ‘secular oratorio’, it’s a setting of texts and quotations by eminent astronomers, physicists, mathematicians and commentators from Albert Einstein to Stephen Hawkins and Carl Sagan to Martin Rees, exploring the history of the universe and our place within it. Space Time Matter Energy will be performed by the Salisbury Chamber Chorus and London percussion ensemble Beaten Track, directed by Simon McEnery.

Performed in London (St Mary le Strand, 10 June) and Salisbury (Blackledge Theatre, 17 June), Space Time Matter Energy promises to be an exciting, thought-provoking and moving event, full of fascinating ideas set to some thrilling and emotional music.

Among previous reviews of McEnery’s music: 'ravishing harmonic opulence … a rich tapestry of harmonic, melodic, motivic and rhythmic gestures' - American Organist; 'somewhere between an oratorio and a musical' - Cathedral Music.

Salisbury Chamber Chorus is well-known in Salisbury as the ‘little choir with the big sound’, having previously performed concerts of Wagner choruses, the Verdi Requiem and Russian opera in venues across the south and in London.

Beaten Track was formed recently by four Guildhall School graduates, heard last year in the Tate Modern Turbine Hall.

Unmissable.
