 "A man does not recover
From such a devotion of the heart
To such a woman
He ought not: he does not"

Anne Elliot fell deeply in love with handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth at the age of 19. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne’s family were against the match and persuaded  her to break off the engagement.

Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Frederick – and when he returns from sea a Captain, she can only watch as every eligible young woman falls at his feet. Can the pair rekindle a love that was lost but not forgotten?

The Playhouse is delighted to premiere Tim Luscombe’s new adaptation of Jane Austen’s final novel, which takes in rural Somerset, the Cobb at Lyme and the dance halls of Bath. Kate Saxon directs, following her much-acclaimed production of Daphne Du Maurier's The Years Between at the Royal, Northampton ("this immaculate production by Kate Saxon" Daily Telegraph).

The cast of Persuasion includes Marianne Oldham as Anne Elliot. Marianne appeared in Kate Saxon's production of The Years Between, for which she has been nominated for 'Best performance in a Play' at the 2011 UK Theatre Awards.
