Since 1965, the Playhouse's Youth Theatre has been inspiring young people with their own abilities to make great theatre both on and offstage.
Stage '65 Performance Training
Weekly Workshops for members aged 8 to 25 cover everything from basic drama skills to advanced theatre practise.
Stage '65 Technical Training
A Training Scheme offers members chances to develop skills in lighting, sound, stage management and design alongside the Playhouse’s own professional technicians.
Stage '65 Productions
As well as weekly workshops and other performance projects, Stage '65 actors and technicians regularly produce shows on both the Playhouse’s Main Stage and Salberg Studio.
In 2009 Stage '65 performed Our Country's Good and The Forgotten Odyssey (with Cheltenham Everyman and Swindon Youth Theatres) in the Salberg Studio and The Wizard of Oz in the Main House. Rehearsals are underway for The Little Mermaid and other Tales, our exciting new devised show based on original stories by Hans Christian Andersen. In June Stage '65 will swashbuckle across the Main Stage with our production of Peter Pan.
Stage '65 Council
This elected group of Youth Theatre members influence the development of Stage '65, organise social events and fundraising and are also the voice of Young People in other Playhouse activities and decisionmaking.
Arts Award with Stage '65
Members of Stage '65 can opt in to our Arts Award scheme and use their Youth Theatre activities, such as weekly workshops or production training, to gain Arts Award qualifications. For more information click here.
