Heartwarming and funny play about an unlikely friendship

As The Crow Flies
14 February 2017

Salisbury Playhouse and Pentabus Theatre Company present Hattie Naylor’s new play, As the Crow Flies, which is performed in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse from Tuesday 28 to March to Saturday 8 April as part of a national rural tour.

Beth has relocated to the country and is struggling to come to terms with her recent divorce. She is visited in her garden by a mischievous crow named Alfie who doesn’t understand the challenges she is facing. Based on the true story of a woman who struck up an unlikely friendship with a wounded crow, this is a heart-warming story of healing and kindness. It is a funny, moving and timeless tale of our endless fascination with birds.

Following its run at Salisbury Playhouse, As the Crow Flies has further dates in the area at Trowbridge Arts (12 April), Chilmark Village Hall (13 April), Newton Tony Memorial Hall (14 April) and Somerford’s Walter Powell Primary School in Chippenham (15 April) before continuing its national tour.

Beth and Alfie are played by Natalia Campbell and Tom Brownlee with live music performed by Imelda Warren-Green.

Hattie Naylor’s work includes Clause 39, which was performed by Salisbury Playhouse’s Stage 65 Youth Theatre in Salisbury Cathedral, and Radio 4’s The Diary of Samuel Pepys.

As the Crow Flies is directed by Elizabeth Freestone and designed by Carla Goodman. The creative team is completed by Composer and Musical Director Dom Coyote, Lighting Designer James Mackenzie and Movement Director Kitty Winter.

Director Elizabeth Freestone says “As the Crow Flies is a very original show. A beautiful story, live music and songs, classy design, top-notch performers – and a very tall man playing a very naughty crow. I hope it will delight audiences with its theatricality as well as exploring fascinating ideas about our experiences of time.”

As the Crow Flies is suitable for those aged 12 years and over. For tickets or more information please contact the Ticket Office on 01722 320333 or visit the show page
